You're Not Alone

Does any of this sound familiar?

?

Are your managers struggling to lead through change and uncertainty?

?

Do your high-potential employees lack the leadership skills to move up?

?

Is your executive team missing alignment on strategy and culture?

?

Are manual processes and spreadsheet chaos slowing your team down?

If any of these resonate, let's talk about what's possible.

The Research

Great Leadership. Smart Processes. Better Results.

Great leadership helps people make better decisions, work together, and achieve meaningful goals. Effective processes provide the structure and tools to turn those decisions into consistent results.

Research consistently demonstrates the value of strong management practices, operational excellence, and developing organizational capabilities.

Harvard Business Review

75% Higher Productivity

Research examining management practices across approximately 12,000 firms in 34 countries found that moving from the bottom 10% to the top 10% in management quality was associated with an estimated 75% higher productivity and 25% faster annual growth. The practices studied included operational management, performance targets, and managing talent.

These are estimates associated with differences in management quality, not guaranteed gains from adopting a program.

Leadership Needs Operational Excellence

"Neither great leadership nor brilliant strategy matters without operational excellence."

Research involving approximately 12,000 firms found that organizations with strong management processes performed significantly better across measures including profitability, productivity, and growth. The research emphasizes that executing fundamental management practices well can be a meaningful competitive advantage.

This article draws on the same underlying research as the productivity finding above.

American Economic Review

More Than 20% of Productivity Differences

Research conducted with the U.S. Census Bureau examining management practices at approximately 35,000 American manufacturing plants found that differences in structured management practices accounted for more than 20% of the variation in productivity. These practices included monitoring operations, setting targets, and managing employee performance.

This means management practices helped explain productivity differences between plants — not that improving management automatically increases productivity by 20%.

The Quarterly Journal of Economics

17% Higher Productivity in One Year

In a randomized field experiment involving Indian textile manufacturers, researchers found that implementing improved management and operational practices increased productivity by 17% during the first year. Improvements included better quality control, greater efficiency, and reduced inventory.

This was a specific management-consulting intervention in manufacturing, not a universal prediction or a study of leadership training alone.

This is why I believe leadership development and process improvement belong together.
